Well I sure got an education today about PC and MAC OS's (Operating Systems).
Our gymnast, Little Rolling Thunder, needs floor music because she is now an optional gymnast and does a choreographed floor routine. Yes, it will be expensive - $300 for just over a minute of prancing. Anyway, she has to pick music.
One of the coaches gave us a CD with 6 songs on it. Russian Music comrade. Well, the file extensions are .webloc - an Apple/MAC creation. The coach said if I can't play it on my PC I could go to the iTunes Store online and preview the songs there.
But first I had to try. I had to see if I could convert the .webloc extension to something a PC could read. Apparently it just is the Apple version of a .url extension. So it would seem. I searched all over the web and received lots of advice. Lots of crap that is. The experts said open it in Mozilla FireFox - so I downloaded it and no joy. The experts said open it in Safari - so I downloaded it and no joy. The experts said open it in Quick Time Player - so I downloaded it and no joy. And finally, the experts said open it in iTunes Player - so I downloaded it and no joy. After all this I concluded that the experts really are not experts and basically have their heads up their buttocks.
What I learned is that if you are given or sent something with a file extension that is not compatible with your particular OS, give or send it back. Ask the person that originated it to put it in a usable format.
Now in my case, I went to the iTunes store and listened to the music. I do plan on informing the coach about this as well. Now that I know what I am doing, Little Rolling Thunder will get to hear the music and decide if she needs to continue looking for her floor routine music. And I have received another life lesson.
