Tutankhaman and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs

My Mother is visiting from Florida and took our family to see the King Tut exhibit at The Dallas Museum of Art. It was wonderful and worth the time and expense. As a family we enjoyed it fully and spent 4 hours at the Museum. We also visited other collections. The King Tut exhibit will be in here in Dallas until May 2009.

It was amazing to see items from ancient Egypt that are 3000 years old. We live in a country that is only about 300 years old so seeing things thousands of years old is a real treat. I tried to lift as many photo's as possible to place here and provided links to the video's.

So watch the video's and learn about the wonders of ancient Egypt and King Tut.

A Changing Halloween!!!!

It's just a cartoon now, but if Obama wins, it could be the future of Halloween for children in America. It certainly will be for their parents. But enough of this political BS.

Here we are, just a few days away from Halloween, and life has changed yet again. I thought I would be taking Little Rolling Thunder Trick or Treating but lo and behold, it is not to be. Little Rolling Thunder and about 6 of her road dogs are going to Trick or Treat together as a group. Can you imagine that a 7th grade girl would want to Trick to Treat with her friends instead of "Daddy"????? What in the world is going on??? Instead of me walking my little witch, ghost, bat, whatever she may be this year around, she will go with a group of girls her same age escorted by a few of the "Moms". For the first time in a few years, I will be sitting at home watching TV and hoping that I still get a cut of the spoils (I am sure I will).

Life is like this. We all know that Little Rolling Thunder will have a great time with her friends and it is not "cool" to just go with "Daddy". I am thankful that I did get to Trick or Treat again after childhood. Those times I took Little Rolling Thunder around the neighborhood will always be treasured memories. There will be a day when she has a child and as her family goes Trick or Treating, she will fondly remember those times when her "Daddy" took her Trick or Treating, just as I remember when my "Daddy" took me.

Why We Speak Up

I have a friend who has a real cool blog - http://victory-garden.blogspot.com/. This blog speaks up for what America is and stands for. The guy who does this blog is in my opinion the ultimate patriotic American. He stands for all that is good and right in this country. Sadly though, I have found that he is the minority. 50 years ago, 30 years ago, perhaps even 20 years ago, this guy was the majority in this country. Where have they all gone????

I look around this nation today and it sickens me to see the extent to which this nation has sunk on all levels. For the first time in our history, we may elect a President that is just as socialistic as the Communists of the old Soviet days. Our society wants God out of everything. And we wonder where morality is today?

If you care for this country. Follow his blog. Educate yourself on the issues. Know what you believe. Put your faith and trust back in God. Relearn what the Founding Fathers wrote.

Now I know my friend will at times become discouraged as the Liberal Socialistic Tidal Wave continues to engulf our society. But I will continue to encourage him and now encourage anyone reading this with the following.

(Martin Niemoller was a Protestant Pastor and head of the anti-Nazi Confessing Church. He also was a friend of Dietrich Bonhoeffer - http://www.arts.uwaterloo.ca/~diebon06/index.html)

In Germany, they first came for the communists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for the Catholics and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Catholic. Then they came for me -- and by that time there was nobody left to speak up.

Who Should Run For President

We are hearing a lot of promises with just days to go before the election of a New President. But who can be really trusted to fulfill their promises????

I can only think of one person that will. One person you can really count on. Click on the following link and watch the video. This is your candidate - the one to vote for. The one for you.

Halloween Fun

Well now isn't this some photo!!! I sent this photo around in an email to a bunch of friends (I hope they still are since I do tend to send out stupid emails a lot - just me getting older). For some reason, Halloween every year has a bunch of funny emails that go around.

Now the fun part you ask. I use to have such naughty fun when I was a kid. My brother and at times some other accomplices used to pull all sorts of pranks. Of course we did the egging houses and cars. We lit pumpkins on fire in the middle of the road when cars where coming (the pumpkin was soaked in gas and had a fuse running from it to a safe place). Pushing dummies out of trees with the hangman noose around the neck as cars drove by. Hanging fish line across the road - when the front bumper of a car caught it, the car would travel about 30 yards and then pull the tied cans up out of the ditch and go clanking down the road. The poor driver would get out but not see the cans due to the distance they were back from the car. Fish line is hard to see at night also. The driver would repeat this at least a couple of more times until the fish line was discovered. It is amazing the language you hear right after a prank. Flaming bags of cow poop on front porches. Water balloons and eggs tossed over fences where parties were being held - sometimes an exercise period would follow during which you really wanted to be wearing a good pair of running shoes. And my speciality - streaking through Mobile Home Parks and at times certain neighborhoods. Yes that's right - nothing on but a pair of real good running shoes and a Halloween mask. Now I know today streaking is a sex crime but this was over 30 years ago when it wasn't and I actually looked good.

Well this Halloween will be like the last few. I will take Little Rolling Thunder around the neighborhoods for the purpose of obtaining a large cache of candy. She will share with me because we take 2 pumpkin buckets and a pillow case along for the adventure. Mom will stay home and hand out candy. This year my mother will be here so it will be extra special for Little Rolling Thunder. And being a Dad, it will, like the last few Halloweens since Little Rolling Thunder could Trick or Treat, will be the best Trick or Treating I have ever done.

A Rainy Day

Finally, we are getting some good rain in the Dallas area. It's about time as we move into Fall. This photo is from the WFAA Channel 8 ABC Tower Cam at Victory Park in Dallas. It is currently looking to the West of the Downtown with Reunion Tower in the foreground.

Now I know some would think big deal, but when you live in the Dallas area on the very end of the Prairie, it is a big deal when you get a nice soaking rain without a thunderstorm or occasional tornado. So much of the weather can be violent here. We also get a lot of hail in this part of the country with strong winds. So, when it just rains gently, it is indeed a very nice thing. After all, it may not rain again for another month or so.

Due to all the heat we get down here, 100's and over through the summer months, this rain will help all the yards relax and move back to the sidewalks. Yes, the ground cracks down here and pulls away from sidewalks, foundations, roads, you name it.

But such is life in the great State of Texas under the big sky.

A New Animal Farm

Many of you have read George Orwell's "Animal Farm". It's a dark story about socialism or communism - call it what you want. For some people, that is their vision for America. But in reality, what we actually have is a new kind of "Animal Farm" being played out in America. And this year's election will decide exactly much of the new "Animal Farm" America will become. A friend sent this story to me and I now share it with you.

The Little Red Hen called all of her Democrat neighbors together and said, 'If we plant this wheat, we shall have bread to eat. Who will help me plant it?'

'Not I,' said the cow.

'Not I,' said the duck.

'Not I,' said the pig.

'Not I,' said the goose.

'Then I will do it by myself,' said the little red hen, and so she did. The wheat grew very tall and ripened into golden grain.

'Who will help me reap my wheat?' asked the little red hen.

'Not I,' said the duck.

'Out of my classification,' said the pig.

'I'd lose my seniority,' said the cow.

'I'd lose my unemployment compensation,' said the goose.

'Then I will do it by myself,' said the little red hen, and so she did.

At last it came time to bake the bread.

'Who will help me bake the bread?' asked the little red hen.

'That would be overtime for me,' said the cow.

'I'd lose my welfare benefits,' said the duck.

'I'm a dropout and never learned how,' said the pig.

'If I'm to be the only helper, that's discrimination,' said the goose.

'Then I will do it by myself,' said the little red hen.

She baked five loaves and held them up for all of her neighbors to see. They wanted some and, in fact, demanded a share. But the little red hen said, 'No, I shall eat all five loaves.'

'Excess profits!' cried the cow. (Nancy Pelosi)

'Capitalist leech!' screamed the duck. (Barbara Boxer)

'I demand equal rights!' yelled the goose. (Jesse Jackson)

The pig just grunted in disdain. (Ted Kennedy)

And they all painted 'Unfair!' picket signs and marched around and around the little red hen, shouting obscenities.

Then the farmer (Obama) came. He said to the little red hen, 'You must not be so greedy.'

'But I earned the bread,' said the little red hen.

'Exactly,' said Barack the farmer. 'That is what makes our free enterprise system so wonderful. Anyone in the barnyard can earn as much as he wants. But under our modern government regulations, the productive workers must divide the fruits of their labor with those who are lazy and idle.'

And they all lived happily ever after, including the little red hen, who smiled and clucked, 'I am grateful, for now I truly understand.'

But her neighbors became quite disappointed in her. She never again baked bread because she joined the 'party' and got her bread free. And all the Democrats smiled. 'Fairness' had been established.

Individual initiative had died, but nobody noticed; perhaps no one cared...so long as there was free bread that 'the rich' were paying for.

EPILOGUE

Bill Clinton is getting $12 million for his memoirs.

Hillary got $8 million for hers.

That's $20 million for the memories from two people, who for eight years, repeatedly testified, under oath, that they couldn't remember anything.

IS THIS A GREAT BARNYARD OR WHAT?

You Had A Bad Day

My boss sent this to me today. We have issues with the system we use at work to design circuits for our network.

But that's not the point of this. The point is that this video is just plain flat out funny to all of us that go to work. And, I am sure many of us have had thoughts of doing just what these folks have done. Anyone anywhere who has worked with today's computers and systems can relate to crashes and outages.

So enjoy the video and stay calm at work.

Trick or Treat in Your Neighborhood

I have a friend I used to sail with in the Navy that lives in the San Diego area. Most of the homes on his street are in foreclosure! I was amazed.

In his area, the cheapest home runs over 350K to the more expensive ones that top out at around 650K. This is on his street!!!

In Dallas, these same homes would run from 100k to about 250K at most. We have foreclosures going on in our area, but it is no wonder why there are so many out on the West Coast.

Little Rolling Thunder will be out Trick or Treating this year. She is still young enough. I wonder how many "Haunted Houses" we will visit during the evening.

I Apopted Your Dog Today

In light of yesterday's incident with the attempted dog dumping and the fact that we got our dog from the SPCA..........I thought it amazing one of my Aunt's just happened to send this poem.

"I ADOPTED YOUR DOG TODAY".

The one you left at the pound.

The one you had for seven years,

and no longer wanted around

I ADOPTED YOUR DOG TODAY....

Do you know he's lost weight?

Do you know he's scared and depressed, and has lost all his faith?

I ADOPTED YOUR DOG TODAY....

He had fleas and a cold,

but don't worry none,

You've unburdened your load.

I ADOPTED YOUR DOG TODAY....

Were you having a baby or moving away?

Did you suddenly develop allergies

Or was there no reason he couldn' t stay?

I ADOPTED YOUR DOG TODAY....

He doesn't play or eat much.

He's very depressed, but he will learn again to trust.

I ADOPTED YOUR DOG TODAY....

And here he will stay.

He's found his forever home,

and a warm bed on which to lay.

I ADOPTED YOUR DOG TODAY....

And I will give him all that he could need.

Patience, love, security, and understanding,

hopefully he will forget your selfish deed.

I ADOPTED YOUR DOG TODAY

DOG DUMPING

I have lived a long time and have never seen anything like I saw today at the Vet's office. I have a cat getting fluids for failed kidneys and I take the cat to the Vet 3 times a week.

As the cat was in the back being treated, a white Ford SUV pulled up with a young couple in it. I just happened to be standing by the glass door waiting. The young female opens the door and looks down. All of a sudden a Golden Lab puppy comes running to the door I am standing at. The puppy then goes and runs under the SUV. I then noticed that both persons in the SUV were staring straight at me. We watched each other for what seemed like a long time. Neither of them got out of the SUV.

I told the office staff that I felt something suspicious was going on out in the parking lot. All this time the puppy is still under the SUV and the young couple is still staring at me. One of the office staff then went outside. As she went outside the young man got out and started to get the puppy. To me it was clear that they were trying to dump the puppy off at the Vet's and did not count on being seen. I even wonder now if they would have driven over the puppy.

The office staff talked to the young man and he just said everything was okay. From where I was you could tell they were both very nervous. The young man managed to get the pupply out from under the SUV and they made a hasty retreat from the parking lot. The office staff stated that the young man said the puppy just got out of the SUV. She did manage to get the license number of the SUV. The police were contacted but as we all know - nothing will be done or can be done.

What is tragic is the way this young couple attempted to get rid of the puppy. Of course, I don't really know what was happening, they could have stolen someone's puppy for all I know. Whatever the situation, their decision making process was really screwed up. If it was really their puppy, they could have taken it to the SPCA or local animal shelter and surrendered it - no questions asked. In our area, most of the animals do find a good home. However, their decision was just to drop it off at the Vet's without even going in. What I fear is since they were seen, they may now just drop the puppy off who knows where.

It never ceases to amaze me just how evil people can be. This is just a puppy that someone now does not want, but, they cannot even attempt to do the right thing. Oh I know - look at what man is doing to man all over the world right now and even in this country. For those of you that do not think Judeo-Christian values are important, ponder this post and just watch the local news. We all need to consider what we believe about God and our need for a Savior. Only through Christ will your heart be right.
